World in Turmoil - How do we organise as climate activists in 2026?

Sign up here for the Campaign against Climate Change AGM and our trade union group AGM on Sunday 1st February. Our supporters are welcome to attend both or just one. They will be held online via Zoom

10.00-11.10: Campaign against Climate Change AGM

We'll have speakers introducing three related topics to set the context for climate campaigning in 2026 - the global context of fossil-fuelled militarism; the rise of Reform and the far right and the need to mobilise against racism; and the corporate push for AI and energy-hungry data centres. These all present a direct threat to the climate as well as challenges to us as campaigners. Meanwhile the direct impacts of climate breakdown are more clearly visible than ever.

11.20-12.30: Campaign against Climate Change trade union group AGM.

The second section of the meeting will pick up some of the discussion of the first one, but focus more on practical organising within the current year of trade union climate action - how we can mobilise within our unions and make links with the wider movement and with civil society to build strength and confidence in trade union climate action.

Formal business

More below about the formal business of the AGMs, but note that this, although important, takes up a relatively small part of the meetings! We use the AGM to discuss current issues, looking back at the campaign's activities in the past year, and plans for the year ahead.

As part of our AGM, we elect members of the steering group of the campaign. The steering group meets around 5 times a year and is responsible for the strategic direction and financial management of the Campaign against Climate Change. Steering group members should support the general approach of the campaign, represent across the group as a whole a diversity of experience, skills and interests and have enough time to be able to contribute some practical help between meetings.

If you wish to stand for the campaign's steering group, or one of the officer positions (Chair, Treasurer or Secretary) you will need to send your name, with the names of your proposer and seconder (who should also be campaign members) to claire@campaigncc.org by 27th January. Any members who are interested in joining the steering group and would like to know more about what is involved are welcome to email before then for an informal chat.

If you wish to stand for one of the officer positions of the trade union group (Chair, Treasurer or Secretary) you will need to send your name, with the names of your proposer and seconder to climatetradeunion@gmail.com by 27th January.
